I didn't know about Four Days Wonder, so I can see I'll have to read it. You are right about whimsical fun - there are some wondrous examples, but when it fails - ouch!Jodie Robsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02442935205880334932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-56296402627538163632008-08-20T12:19:00.001+01:002008-08-20T12:19:00.001+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.StuckInABookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10017836017530130716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-6655448620745026512008-08-20T12:19:00.000+01:002008-08-20T12:19:00.000+01:00Ah! He wrote SO much, it's a shame only the children's books are remembered.

The Red House Mystery is whimsical fun (definitely a compliment from me - I imagine whimsical fun is one of the most difficult genres to write successfully) - he did another sort-of detection novel, Four Days' Wonder, but not quite in the same mould. Also wrote novels, plays, sketches, poetry, essays, pacifist literature, a wonderful autobiography... so much Milne to find! If you'd like any suggestions... (for in-print things, see snowbooks.co.uk for their reprint of The Sunny Side...)
SimonStuckInABookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10017836017530130716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-17873365649946976232008-08-17T20:00:00.000+01:002008-08-17T20:00:00.000+01:00Oh yes. As soon as I saw it, I knew I must read it. I'm glad you like Allingham, some people seem to get very caught up by her non-PC-ness but I find her an endless joy. I think I'll have a binge this winter, it will be something to really look forward to.Jodie Robsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02442935205880334932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-82290934589770998972008-08-09T08:59:00.000+01:002008-08-09T08:59:00.000+01:00This sounds wonderful.
