I don't know why 'cheery' books get such a bad reputation. We're supposed to enjoy sad, depressing, miserable books and scoff at more uplifting ones, according to reviewers, etc. Not me. I'll always be more on the side of Pollyanna! In my book journal notes from twelve years ago, I wrote: "Pollyanna is a true
inspiration for living- trying to find the good in everyone, and every circumstance."Nanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15547916206007733970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-30149614420692653842014-03-02T11:23:03.259+00:002014-03-02T11:23:03.259+00:00I never read this as a child either - it sounds de...I never read this as a child either - it sounds delightful.Annabel (gaskella)http://gaskella.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-50666653106897639512014-02-28T07:58:53.367+00:002014-02-28T07:58:53.367+00:00Like others here, my introduction to Pollyanna was...Like others here, my introduction to Pollyanna was through being taken to see the Hayley Mills film as a child (unlike you, I do like her).
I read the book as an adult and went on to collect the whole lot: fourteen of them, not all by the same author. The later books (marriage, children, still gladly helping everyone) lack the charm of the first and I sold them.callmemadamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12711070764040041338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-29876723945924529382014-02-27T17:58:57.372+00:002014-02-27T17:58:57.372+00:00Found & downloaded it (for free) from the Kind...Found & downloaded it (for free) from the Kindle shop minutes after I had posted my comment :-)Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-54112557325248658102014-02-27T17:25:49.837+00:002014-02-27T17:25:49.837+00:00I also came to the story through the Hayley Mills ...I also came to the story through the Hayley Mills film - the first, I think, in which she took the main part - and for once I didn't then go to the book as a follow-up. Probably the library didn't have a copy. I'm snowed under at the moment with books that need reading for a particular date, but once I've got the backlog cleared I'll certain see if there's a kindle version.Alexhttp://thinkinginfragments.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-66031408421206476682014-02-27T13:58:57.901+00:002014-02-27T13:58:57.901+00:00I was delighted, it's always good to discover ...I was delighted, it's always good to discover another book you really like :-)GeraniumCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03010199887691558717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-2219276121556047382014-02-27T13:58:03.540+00:002014-02-27T13:58:03.540+00:00A remake would be great, I hope someone thinks of ...A remake would be great, I hope someone thinks of it.GeraniumCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03010199887691558717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-59186785100115998822014-02-27T06:11:28.893+00:002014-02-27T06:11:28.893+00:00It can be probably found on the Kindle store. I hated it as a kid, but actually, as an adult, I recommend it. It's got lots of good moments and isn't nearly as saccharine as little me thought it was. Plus there is the inimitable Karl Malden as a hellfire preacher rattling the ceilings of the church with his words.Jenny @ Reading the Endhttp://readingtheend.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-74919289509496718352014-02-26T11:38:07.160+00:002014-02-26T11:38:07.160+00:00I also did not read Pollyanna until I was an adult...I also did not read Pollyanna until I was an adult and loved it too.
