I hope you will give the book another try - it does need more effort than many books, but I think you're rewarded in the end. It's going to be high on my list of favourite books for the year.Jodie Robsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02442935205880334932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-2309556204665465822008-02-18T04:40:00.000+00:002008-02-18T04:40:00.000+00:00I picked up a copy of this at a sale, and started ...I picked up a copy of this at a sale, and started it at a time when I wasn't in the mood to put thought into my reading. I got a bit fed up with being thrown into a new world, and all the exposition I had to follow to catch up. Your review's persuaded me to give it another try sometime soon. Thank you!

(I came here from the Sci-fi Experience, and the link from there is to another post, btw.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-39950210058884023132008-02-17T10:51:00.000+00:002008-02-17T10:51:00.000+00:00Mieville has written a YA novel called Un Lun Dun ...Mieville has written a YA novel called Un Lun Dun which I've got waiting to be read - got very good reviews. There's an adult trilogy which starts with Perdido Street Station (which I thought very good but maybe a bit long - worth the effort, though) followed by The Scar, which I couldn't put down. The last is Iron Council, which I, like quite a few other people, got stuck on; expect I'll finish it sometime but I think he got a bit lost in it. You could probably just about read The Scar as a standalone, but there is some excellent stuff in Perdido Street Station, and it does do all the scene-setting for the second book.Jodie Robsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02442935205880334932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-182642520216901583.post-18810408644909819982008-02-16T20:42:00.000+00:002008-02-16T20:42:00.000+00:00I've got it on order.
