Young Adult Challenge

I was so tempted by this challenge when I first saw it, and then swithered rather over undertaking another. After a further week's deliberation I thought, why not? Twelve YA books in the course of 2008? I read at least one a month so I'd be reading and posting about them anyway. And the two other challenges I'm doing don't run the whole year. So, here goes (in no particular order):
1. Frances Hardinge, Verdigris Deep*
2.
Garth Nix, Shade's Children*
3. Madeleine L'Engle, An Acceptable Time*
4. Julia Golding, Cat Among the Pigeons
5. John Wilson, The Alchemist's Dream
6. Sherman Alexie, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian
7. Catherine Fisher, Incarceron
8. Amanda Hemingway, The Poisoned Crown*
9. William Nicholson, Seeker
10. Patricia McKillip, Winter Rose

11. Adele Geras, Voyage

12. Patricia C. Wrede, Sorcery and Cecelia

Alternatives:
  • Stephen Hunt, Court of the Air*
  • Angie Sage, Magyk
  • Kate Thompson, The New Policeman
  • Sherman Alexie, Flight
  • Charles de Lint, Little (Grrl) Lost
  • Geraldine McCaughrean, The White Darkness
I shall quite possibly have finished the first book by midnight on January 1st!

* these are books that I already have

  1. Welcome to the YA Challenge! I'm so glad you are joining us. I'm relatively new to the YA genre (hence the challenge), so I only recognize a few of your authors. Now I have more to look up. Thanks! :) Happy Reading!

  2. Sounds fun! I loved "Sorcery and Cecelia". Mckillip is always good, too.

  4. I've signed up for this as well, although I may need your help with how it works technically What is Mr Linky?

  5. Oh good, Ann, I'm delighted you're doing it too. I've picked up quite a few recommendations from your reviews.

I think all you have to do with the Mr Linky widget is post your list to your own site, select that actual post and then out your name and the URL for the list in the box on Joy's page. Then people can navigate directly from Joy's page to yours. Then each time you post a review I assume you do the same thing. I hadn't come across it before either and mentioned it to my computer-literate son in terms of great suspicion. It's just an auto-link, he said dismissively...he tells me off for not being careful then, when I think I am being, he says I'm neurotic. Can't win!

  6. Right - I think! It must be the nasty way my mind works but Mr Linky sounded vaguely obscene to me, I wasn't quite certain what I was getting myself into.

  7. Much the same thought crossed my mind!

  8. I haven't read any of your books. I felt the same way about this challenge as you did, but I always enjoy the YA books I read.

  9. Raidergirl, I just can't wait to get started, I am so looking forward to some of those books. It's a good thing I've got the From the Stacks challenge to take my mind off it in the meantime!
